Seiko has been an established watch making company for more than one century. So it is no wonder that they have grown into a respectable company that easily competes in today’s marketplace. With that said, people expect a certain quality when it comes to their products. We’re going to be taking a look at the Seiko Prospex SUN023 Kinetic GMT Divers Man.

It has a 48mm wide case, finished in what Seiko call black ion. It’s 16mm thick, the lug to lug distance is 51 mm, which isn’t all that much considering a watch of this size. It weighs 154 grams, the front glass is Sapphire crystal and it is water resistant up to 200 meters, which is exactly what one would expect of a Seiko diver time piece. The black and orange color pattern they went with definitely gives off a more sporty look, especially considering this particular watch has a silicone strap. A slight influence of an industrial design approach is evident in certain parts of the watch, with the big insert screws being clearly visible on the sides.

Seiko has a very interesting way of keeping the watch working. It’s powered by the person’s movement, which in turn charges a battery inside the watch. It basically works like an automatic watch, considering the way it’s powered, but the energy is turned into an electrical current instead of mechanically storing the energy.

Very easy to see the time in dark conditions

Divers will be very familiar with all the features Seiko diving watches have offered over the years, and this model just takes things even further, as far as usability goes. The LumiBrite hands make it very easy to see the time in dark conditions, or deep underwater conditions.

Recommended for travelers

All in all, this is a very capable watch that every diver will enjoy, and travelers will definitely appreciate the GMT indicator. The size of the casing will not appeal to everyone. And the fact it’s not a fully automatic watch is somewhat of a negative. But considering what it is meant for, and what you’re getting, this is one very nice time piece.
